The Scoop
The Koreatown original is on West 6th in Wilshire Center, and it is small: two or three tables and a counter, built for stop-and-go. This is where the Vienna latte got its reputation, and the line out the door on a weekday morning is the evidence. The Vienna Matcha is the one we order, freshly whisked with a matcha syrup drizzle under the house cream, and it wants a proper shake before the first sip so the cream folds through instead of sitting on top. Nekohama matcha runs the whole board here, and the creamy builds in blueberry, coconut, mango and a rose version give it a range the size of the room does not prepare you for. There is a plain matcha tea too, for the days when nothing needs to be added to it. Staff keep smiling through the rush, which is its own kind of achievement at eight in the morning. We would come early, take it outside, and walk it down 6th.
