The Scoop
The Hewitt Street cafe opened in 2008 as Urth's Downtown home and its headquarters, which put the coffee roasting and the tea blending under the same roof as the cafe. It is the biggest room in the group and the one that anchors the Arts District morning. Knowing the tea blending happened on site is what makes this one our pick of the Downtown cafes. The matcha is the Wazuka Cha from Akihiro Nakai's Entsu Estate, ceremonial grade and shade grown under blanket canopies so the leaves darken. The full drink list runs here: the Rising Sun Matcha Latté with its espresso layer, the Japanese Matcha Latté, the Matcha Affogato Boba and the Strawberry Matcha Affogato Boba. Doors open at 7 am and close at 10 pm, 11 pm on Friday and Saturday.
