Matsu Matcha

Matsu Matcha is a matcha house first and a cafe second. Its own line is that a good cup of matcha is grown, and it sells its tea by the tin alongside matcha chocolate. The company talks about its stone milling in terms of hundreds of millions of grinding cycles, and grades its top tea at what it calls thousand-eye tea ceremony level, which is a claim about fineness that almost nobody else on this site makes in public. The Koreatown room on South Western is where all of that arrives as drinks, and we would start there, because the gelato comes in five intensity levels and that is the fastest way to work out where your own tolerance sits. The latte flavors go properly adventurous from there. Cookie butter matcha, coconut cream matcha and a banana pudding creme brulee all sit on a menu that keeps going well past those.
