Laveta

Laveta opened in the summer of 2019 on Glendale Boulevard in Echo Park, run by the same team behind Andante Coffee Roasters, which explains why the coffee is as considered as the room. The building is a standalone structure and the interior is polished concrete flowing without a break from the seating to the coffee bar, with simple wood furnishings against it. The windows do the rest, dropping dramatic patches of golden hour light across the floor late in the day. That combination made it one of the most photographed cafes in the city, and the matcha holds up under the attention. A plain latte and a matcha misto are what to order, both made with the restraint the whole place runs on. It sits on the far side of the 101 from Echo Park's main coffee stretch, which has done nothing to slow it down. We go for the light at four in the afternoon and stay past when we meant to.
