Federal Coffee calls itself The Pink Coffee Shop and means it, putting that signature pink into a Pink Latte and a Pink Cappuccino at a small window on Pico Boulevard in West LA. The owners are cheerfully direct about the reason, writing that they love pink because it makes people smile, and the shop runs organic and vegan friendly alongside it. The sourcing is where it turns particular. Espresso is Sightglass, roasted locally so it comes in fresh, the pastries are from Chaumont Bakery, and the food comes exclusively from Farm Shop. Freshness and sustainability are how the shop describes its own operation, and the board is kept short enough to hold that line. Matcha is on that short board, poured with a choice of milk, and the vanilla version is the one people name first. What we like is how little the shop oversells itself: its own Facebook page introduces the place as a new coffee spot in prime West LA, small window big coffee, which is about right.
